Darren Till on how good his fight with Stephen Thompson was

There has been a lot of talk about the fight between Darren Till and Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson in Liverpool this past weekend.
Till and Thompson, two very skilled strikers, went head-to-head for five rounds of fighting. The pace was very slow and not many strikes were thrown throughout the course of the contest.
In the end, however, the numbers favored Till and the judges gave the Englishman the fight on their scorecards.

CONTROVERSY

When watching the fight, however, it looked as though Thompson landed more shots than Till off his counterstrikes. Till did most of the Octagon pressure and got the only knockdown of the night in the fifth round as well.
Fans go back-and-forth of who they believe won the fight, but most think that the two-time welterweight title challenger in Thompson should've rightfully gotten the nod.

Thompson himself recently said that had the fight been somewhere else, such as Las Vegas, he thinks the judges would've awarded him the fight.
Till was recently a guest on MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani's program, The MMA Hour, and discussed his fight with Thompson. During the interview, he made a very bold claim about the fight, that didn't really live up to fans' expectations.

A BOLD COMMENT

Despite understanding that fans didn't exactly get what they wanted from the fight, Till believes that it was one of the best fights ever in his opinion (quotes via MMA Fighting):
“People were saying that it wasn’t the barnburner that we expected, but I knew it wasn’t going to be a barnburner.
"Obviously I came out and said I was going to finish him, but I knew that wasn’t the case. He expected an aggressive Darren Till, but there was no way he was getting that against such a top level striker like him.
"Honestly, it had my brain puzzled for the four rounds and I probably had his. For me, it was one of the best fights ever. It was so tricky just to get by each other,” Till said.
While the fight was good for a fan who can appreciate technical striking, most common fans will not have enjoyed the fight simply because of its pace.
One thing that can not be disputed, however, is the record books indicate that Till won the fight and is now the No. 2-ranked welterweight in the UFC. It should be interesting to see what's next for these two men going forward.
